Arnab Ranjan Goswami is an Indian journalist, TV news presenter, and the Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, as well as the head of the News Broadcasting Association. He began his career in media in 1995 and is best recognized for his strong reporting.
Arnab Goswami (born March 7, 1973) is the managing director and editor-in-chief of Republic Media Network in India. Republic Media Network, which is owned and operated by Goswami, currently owns and operates three channels: Republic TV in English, Republic Bharat in Hindi, and Republic Bangla in Bengali. He also hosted a special television show called Arnab’s Frankly Speaking.

Arnab Goswami Career
Arnab Goswami began his journalism career with The Telegraph in Kolkata, and after a year, he relocated to Delhi and joined NDTV. Goswami was the host of NDTV’s ‘News Hour’ and ‘News Tonight,’ which was shown on DD Metro. For ‘Newsnight,’ Goswami earned the Best News Anchor of Asia award at the Asian Television Awards in 2004.
Arnab Goswami quit NDTV in 2006 to become the editor-in-chief of Times Now news channel. Arnab had a program called Frankly Speaking with Arnab on Times Now, where he interviewed notable figures such as Benazir Bhutto, Hamid Karzai, Dalai Lama, Hillary Clinton, Narendra Modi, and others.
Goswami departed Times Now on November 1, 2016, claiming ideological disputes, a lack of journalistic freedom, and staff politics as reasons for his departure.
Arnab launched Republic TV, a new company financed by Asianet, on May 6, 2017. Rajeev Chandrashekhar, an independent member of the Rajya Sabha with BJP ties and the vice-chairman of the National Democratic Alliance in Kerala, was the primary funder of Asianet. After officially joining BJP, he resigned as Asianet’s director. Republic TV became the most-watched English news channel in India since its establishment for 100 weeks in a row.
Goswami resigned as a member of the Editors Guild of India on live television on April 20, 2020, citing many reasons and criticizing the guild’s president, Shekhar Gupta.

Controversies
- In the Delhi High Court, Shashi Tharoor filed a civil defamation complaint against Arnab Goswami and Republic TV. Shahi Tharoor said that Arnab linked him to his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death in 2014 from May 8 to 13. “Bring down the rhetoric,” said Justice Manmohan of the Delhi High Court. Republic TV withdrew the video from its website and YouTube account after receiving the complaint, but did not apologize and filed an appeal.
- After Goswami’s race and religious stereotype remarks, the NBSA asked Republic TV to apologize again in October 2019. Rather than apologizing, the channel stated that the NBSA is conducting “intensive pseudo-judicial scrutiny.” It’s worth mentioning that Goswami was the committee’s convener when this code was written a year ago.
- On 4 November 2020, Arnab Goswami was arrested in relation to the 2018 case of abetment of suicide. He was charged under Section 306 and Section 34 of IPC by Mumbai Police. In 2018, interior designer Anvay Naik, along with his mother Kumud Naik were found dead at their bungalow in Alibaug. Naik, in his suicide note, alleged non-payment of dues from three individuals, including Republic TV’s Chief Arnab Goswami, as a reason for ending his life. On November 11, 2020, the Supreme Court of India granted interim bail to Arnab Goswami.
