Controversies
- After being appointed to the Punjab government’s cabinet in 2017, Channi built an illegal road from a park outside his house on the advice of his astrologer, who advised Channi to do so in order to advance his political career. The road was soon demolished by local authorities. On the advice of his astrologer, Channi also rode an elephant in his own lawns at the same time.
- In February 2018, Channi sparked outrage when one of his videos went viral on social media, showing him flipping a coin to decide between two lecturer candidates for one position. The Punjab opposition parties, including the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal, accused him of the same thing. Later, Channi clarified that both candidates were equally qualified for the position, and that he was asked to do so by the candidates themselves.
- Sukhpal Khaira of the Aam Aadmi Party accused Channi of illegal sand mining in March 2018. Channi later stated and clarified that the images displayed by Khaira were from a public function. He also stated that no one in his family was involved in illegal sand mining.
- Channi was accused of recommending the transfer of an IAS officer in 2018. The accusation was made because Channi disliked the officer.
- Charanjit Singh Channi was charged in 2018 with sending indecent messages to an IAS officer named Kavita Singh, and the case was reopened.
