Indian boxer Subedar Manish Kaushik competes in the lightweight division. He is a Junior Commissioned Officer in the Indian Army (JCO). In his maiden international debut, Kaushik won the gold medal at the Doha International Boxing Tournament. Manish earned gold at the 2017 National Boxing Games two years later. Manish Kaushik went on to earn a silver medal for India at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. In the 2020 Summer Olympics, he will compete in the lightweight division for India. Manish is from the hamlet of Devsar in Haryana’s Bhiwani district.

Manish Kaushik Career
After seeing his idol Vijendra Singh win the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Manish became interested in boxing. Manish’s father first refused to let him attempt boxing because he wanted him to focus on his education, but after seeing his enthusiasm for the sport, he eventually persuaded him to do so.
Manish Kaushik would balance his education and his boxing. He used to get up at 4 a.m. every day to manage his schoolwork with boxing. Manish graduated from Bhiwani’s Government College of Education. He also keeps himself occupied in his spare time by assisting his parents on the farm, where they cultivate cereals and wheat.
Manish serves in the Indian Army as Joint Commissioned Officer.
After winning gold in state-level contests, Manish Kaushik’s boxing career took off. He began boxing for the Service camp after joining the Indian Army. Narender Rana, the main coach of the Service camp, recognized his boxing talent and took him under his care. Manish was a successful junior national-level boxer before joining the Indian Army. He was a national sub-junior champion. Manish won Silver at the 2015 Senior Nationals Boxing Championships, his first senior national medal. He won his first international Gold medal at the Doha Cup International Boxing Championships later that year, as well as a Bronze medal at the President’s Cup Boxing Championships held in Indonesia.
Manish became the first Indian to win the Senior National Boxing Championships in Visakhapatnam in 2017, defeating Shiva Thapa in the final. He also won a Silver medal at the Kazakhstan International Boxing Tournament in the same year. He won gold at the Men’s National Boxing Championships in Pune the following year. He went on to win a gold medal at the India Open Boxing Championships in New Delhi later that year.
