Nayagaon and Kansal would be cordoned off by the Mohali police during the yoga event at the Capitol Complex, Chandigarh, on International Day of Yoga on June 21.
The two places are strategically located near the venue of the event in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be the chief guest.
Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said special security arrangements had been made for the day; over 1,350 policemen would be deputed in Nayagaon, Kansal and the funnel zone of the Mohali airport. “As many as five SPs and 10 DSPs would supervise the arrangements. As many as 25 inspectors, 82 non-gazetted officers and over 1,200 head constables and constables would guard the areas,” said the SSP.
SSP Bhullar added that the entire area of Kansal and Nayagaon would be cordoned off on June 20 and 21. “We have already intensified patrolling in the area. Besides, our teams are holding special nakas and conducting checking in the area,” said the SSP.
Arms licence holders told to deposit weapons
Most of the people possessing licensed firearms have deposited their weapons with the police at Kansal and Nayagaon after directions in this regard were issued. There are 103 arms licence holders in Kansal and Nayagaon and nearly 100 of them have deposited their arms. The process is comparatively slow in the area near the Mohali
airport, as only 150 of the total 733 arms licence holders of
villages in the airport’s vicinity have deposited their weapons with the police so far.
