Prabhas Career
2002–2011: Commercial success, breakthrough, and debut
Prabhas’s film career began in 2002 with the release of Eeswar. He had the lead role in Raghavendra in 2003.
He made appearances in Adavi Raamudu and Varsham in 2004. For his role in the former, he was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu for the first time.
He made appearances in the S. S. Rajamouli films Chakram and Chatrapathi in 2005, where he played a refugee who is taken advantage of by thugs. It ran in 54 centers for 100 days. He exuded a manly appeal and a distinct flair, according to Idlebrain.com. Chatrapathi was nominated twice for the Filmfare Award in the Telugu category for Best Actor.
Subsequently, he starred in the action movies Yogi (2007), Munna (2007), and Pournami (2006), which was a dance drama. In 2008, the action-comedy Bujjigadu came after this. His two films in 2009 were Ek Niranjan and Billa. “Stylish and visually rich” is how Indiaglitz described Billa. Prabhas new movie & third nomination for the Filmfare Award’s Best Actor—Telugu—went to Ek Niranjan.
He starred in the romantic comedy Darling in 2010, which opened to favorable reviews. The Times of India gave the film a 2.5-star rating, stating that “director Karunakaran manages to get strong performances out of his performers, but he struggles to come up with a novel storyline. The director appears to still be suffering from the effects of Tholi Prema, as he presents another one-sided love story without offering a convincing argument for why a young man from Generation Z should keep his feelings for his partner bottled up until the very end. He makes up for it all, though, by packing the movie with hilarious moments, and the writing does have a few poignant passages.
He had an appearance in Mr. Perfect, a romantic comedy, in 2011. “The film comes across as a clean, family entertainer and the makers’ intention must be appreciated,” the review site GreatAndhra wrote in its three-star rating. He was nominated four times for the Filmfare Award in Telugu for Best Actor, Telugu, for his work in the movie.
2012–2014: Career continued
Raghava Lawrence directed Rebel, an action movie, in which Prabhas featured in in 2012. “The film belongs to hard-core Prabhas fans as the movie is stylish and visually rich but not much in content,” said Sashidhar of The Times of India. NDTV’s Purnima Ranawat stated, “Rebel prepares food for a broad audience. Prabhas’s fans will undoubtedly enjoy the movie. Keep an eye out for Prabhas’s action talents and Tamannaah Bhatia’s dancing prowess.”Rediff.com’s Radhika Rajamani rated the film 1.5 stars out of 5 and wrote, “Director Raghava Lawrence created a difficult film with very little plot. Rebel is a film intended for a broad audience rather than a sophisticated one.”Additionally, he provided the voice of Denikaina Ready (2012), in a brief cameo.
Prabhas starred in the film Mirchi in 2013. Idlebrain.com’s Jeevi rated Mirchi 3.25 out of 5, noting that “The first part of the film is passable. Good flashback episodes make up the majority of the second half. The climax was not quite up to par. Prabhas, the soundtrack, and the film’s overall focus are its strong aspects. Overall, Mirchi contains every element of a commercial potboiler. Mahesh S. Koneru awarded the movie a 3.25/5 rating, stating that “At the box office, the film will turn in a good commercial performance”.
Additionally, Way2Movies rated the film 3.25/5, concluding that “Prabhas rocks the show in this decent yet formulaic commercial entertainer”. SuperGoodMovies rated the movie three out of five stars, saying, “Watch Mirchi; it will amuse both the general public and the elite. It’s worth seeing.”He was nominated five times for the Filmfare Award in Telugu for Best Actor, Telugu, for his work in the movie. Then, in 2014, he debuted in Hindi cinema with the item number “Punjabi Mast” from the movie Action Jackson.
2015–2017: Success and Baahubali
Prabhas starred in S.S. Rajamouli’s epic action drama Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), the fourth highest-grossing Indian film to date, as Shivudu/Mahendra Baahubali and Amarendra Baahubali. The movie launched the pan-Indian film movement. In its follow-up, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), Prabhas returned to the character. It is currently the second-highest-grossing Indian film ever and the first to earn over ₹1,000 crore (US$155 million) in all languages in just ten days.
For his role in The Conclusion, he was awarded the SIIMA Award for Best Actor in Telugu. For Baahubali’s role, he put on 105 kg of weight. He was nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor-Telugu six times, thanks to his performances in both movies.
