Sathiyan Gnanasekaran is a table tennis player from India who is presently ranked number 38 in the world as of August 2021. He was a member of the Indian Junior World Championships bronze-winning team in 2011.
Sathiyan achieved his highest career World rating of 24 in May 2019, becoming the first Indian paddler to ever break into the World Top-25 ITTF rankings.
He was the first Indian paddler to sign a contract with the Japanese T-Okayama league’s Rivets.

The best decision made by Sathiyan was to change his career from engineer to table tennis after being persuaded by his instructor. He began competing in junior state and national events after obtaining guidance from Subramanian Raman. Sathiyan excelled in both doubles and singles competitions.
Sathiyan was a success at the junior level, but he failed to make the transition from junior to senior after failing to break through in senior events. Coach Raman escorted him to Germany for proper instruction. He competed and won medals in senior state and national tournaments after returning from Germany.
Sathiyan won a bronze medal in Men’s Doubles at the ITTF Platinum in Australia in 2019, and a bronze medal in Men’s Singles at the ITTF Challenge Plus in Muscat the following year.
He defeated 9-time National Champion Sarath Kamal to become a National Champion in Men’s Singles in the National Table Tennis Championships in February 2021.
