Sidharth Shukla (12 December 1980 – 2 September 2021) was an Indian television and cinema actor, host, and model. He was born on 12 December 1980 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. Shukla went to St. Xavier’s High School in Fort, Mumbai, and graduated from Rachana Sansad School of Interior Design with a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. He was known for his playing a role in Balika Vadhu Serial. He was also known for his roles in Broken But Beautiful 3 and Dil Se Dil Tak. He emerged as the winner of reality shows Bigg Boss 13 and Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7. He was the host of Savdhaan India and India’s Got Talent, among other shows. In December 2005, he defeated 40 other contestants from Asia, Latin America, and Europe to win the title of World’s Best Model. He made his acting debut in the 2008 show Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na, in which he played the lead part. Shukla made his Bollywood debut in the 2014 film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, in which he had a supporting part.

Life and career of Sidharth Shukla
1980–2007: Early life and career beginnings
Shukla was born into a Hindu family on December 12, 1980, to Ashok Shukla, a civil engineer with the Reserve Bank of India, and Rita Shukla, a homemaker. During his modelling days, he lost his father to a lung disease. He is the eldest of two sisters. Shukla has characterised himself as a very sporty child who has played tennis and football for his school. During their tour to Mumbai as part of Festa Italiana, he played against AC Milan’s under-19 team. After completing bachelor’s degree in interior design, Shukla worked in an interior designing firm for a couple of years.
Shukla placed second in the Gladrags Manhunt and Megamodel Contest in 2004. Ila Arun’s song “Resham Ka Rumal” featured him in a video. In 2005, he represented India in Turkey in the World’s Best Model competition, where he became the first Indian and Asian to win the title, defeating 40 competitors from Asia, Latin America, and Europe. He starred in advertising for Bajaj Avenger, ICICI, and Digjam after winning the title.
2008–2011: Television Debut
In 2008, he made his acting debut in the Sony TV series Babul Ka Aangann Chootey Na, in which he co-starred with Aastha Chaudhary. Shukla played Shubh Ranawat, a family man who is dedicated to his career. In February of 2009, the show came to an end.
In 2009, he starred alongside Sanjeeda Sheikh and Aditi Tailang in Star One’s Jaane Pehchaane Se… Ye Ajnabbi as Veer Vardhan Singh. In September of 2010, the show came to an end. He also appeared in a few episodes of Aahat after Jaane Pehchaane Se… Ye Ajnabbi concluded. On StarPlus in 2011, he played Rahul Kashyap opposite Pavitra Punia in Love U Zindagi. 2012–2014: Breakthrough with Balika Vadhu and Bollywood Debut
Shukla made his acting debut in Balika Vadhu in 2012, playing District Collector Shivraj Shekhar opposite Pratyusha Banerjee and Toral Rasputra. His performance as Shiv in the long-running Colors TV social drama Balika Vadhu gained him worldwide acclaim and appreciation, as well as multiple awards and nominations. At the Indian Television Academy (ITA) Awards, he was named “GR8! Performer of the Year (Male).” When his character, Shiv, was killed fighting terrorists in 2015, he quit the show. In 2013, Shukla participated in the celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6, and was eliminated in the 11th week. It was reported that Shukla had signed a 3-film-deal with Dharma Productions.
Shukla made his Bollywood debut in the romantic comedy Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania in 2014 in a supporting role as Angad Bedi, an NRI doctor and the fiancé of Alia Bhatt’s female character. In 2015, he won a Stardust Award for “Breakthrough Supporting Performance (Male)” for the film.
2014–2018: Television hosting, Khatron Ke Khiladi and Dil Se Dil Tak
Shukla was chosen the host of Savdhaan India in 2014. He told stories about ordinary individuals who fought crime. After leaving Balika Vadhu in 2015, he co-hosted India’s Got Talent 6 alongside Bharti Singh, with the season finale broadcast in June 2015. Shukla was the winner of Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 7 in 2016. He co-hosted India’s Got Talent 7 with Bharti Singh in the same year, with the season finale broadcast in July 2016. Later same year, Shukla starred in the Kazakhstan film Business in Kazakhstan as Mr. Chakraborty, an Indian businessman. In 2017, he starred alongside Rashami Desai and Jasmin Bhasin in Dil Se Dil Tak as Parth Bhanushali. The series was inspired by the Bollywood movie, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke. He left the series in December 2017.
2019–2021: Bigg Boss 13 and Broken But Beautiful 3
He took part in the reality show Bigg Boss 13 in 2019 and was awarded the winner in February 2020. Shukla was voted the most popular competitor on Bigg Boss 13 by Ormax Media, who ranked him first for 20 weeks. In polls conducted by Hindustan Times, India TV News, and The Times of India, he was named the most popular Bigg Boss 13 competitor. He was Bigg Boss 13’s most-tweeted contestant. Shukla won the Bigg Boss #AsliFans (Asli Fans) Twitter challenge, which was hosted by Voot, by receiving the most tweets out of all the participants, using the hashtag #SidharthKeAsliFans.
Shukla’s immense popularity helped him earn appearances in two music videos, “Bhula Dunga” and “Dil Ko Karaar Aaya,” after he won Bigg Boss 13 in 2020. For the first two weeks of Bigg Boss 14, Shukla was one of the “Toofani” Seniors, alongside Hina Khan and Gauahar Khan. Until he was inside the Bigg Boss 14 house as a senior, Ormax media rated Shukla as the most popular housemate of Bigg Boss 14. Shukla then starred in “Shona Shona,” another song video.
Shukla hosted the 16th week of Bigg Boss 14’s “Weekend Ka Vaar” in January 2021, coming in for Salman Khan, who was unavailable due to other activities. Controversies
- He was fined 2000 (INR) by the Traffic Police in Mumbai for drunken driving on New Year’s Eve, and his license was seized.
- Siddharth was arrested by the Mumbai Police Department in 2018 for aggressive driving. He was accused under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 279, 337, and 427 and was released after paying a fine of Rs. 5000.
- During his stint in Balika Vadhu, Siddharth got into a cold war with actor, Shashank Vyas, over his share of role in the serial.
- Siddharth was not on talking terms with his Balika Vadhu co-star, Toral Rasputra.
- There was also a rift between Siddharth and his Dil Se Dil Tak co-star, Kunal criticised the actor for his bad behaviour on the sets of the show. He said, “Kunal said, “He is an unprofessional maniac and a psycho. I think he needs psychiatric treatment again. I heard he had gone to rehab once and I think he needs to visit it again.
- Siddharth is often criticised for being late on the sets of his shows and for creating a ruckus with his bizarre demands.
- Reportedly, he also got into a fight with his co-star, on the sets of the serial “Dil Se Dil Tak.” He refused shooting for the show as his vanity van was smaller than that of Rashami.
